Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk of Abuse or Neglect pdf icon PDF 36 KB

Minutes:

The Council adopted its Child Protection Policy in 2006 and subsequently updated the policy to incorporate adults at risk of abuse and neglect in 2014 in response to the introduction of the Care Act 2014.  A revised policy was agreed by members in 2016.  The Committee considered the annual update on the Council’s action to meet its safeguarding duties.  This included reference to the self-assessment, areas identified for improvement and training sessions.

 

Members were informed that a District/Borough Sub-Group of the Derbyshire County Council Safeguarding Board had been set up.

 

RESOLVED:

 

That the Executive be requested to note the actions taken by the Council in response to its safeguarding duties.

Business Rates Revaluation and Local Discretionary Rate Relief Scheme pdf icon PDF 91 KB

Minutes:

The purpose of the report was to provide an overview of the updated and new business rate reliefs that had been recently announced by central government and to consider the criteria for a new local discretionary business rate relief policy. 

 

The Committee received a presentation from the Council’s Finance and Procurement Manager that demonstrated the impact of the 2017 revaluation, business rate reliefs and the Local Discretionary Rate Relief Policy.  Discussion ensued around the potential implications for the introduction of the reliefs on Council properties and the reasoning for tapers.

 

RESOLVED:

 

1.            That the implications of the business rate revaluation on the local businesses in High Peak, including the new reliefs that had been implemented by central government, be noted.

 

2.            That potential principles and criteria for the Executive to consider in a local discretionary rate relief scheme should be based on sound financial objectives.

Contract Award - Structural Engineering Services Framework

Minutes:

The Committee considered the appointment of Structural Engineers to a framework for design and advice services to the Council following the completion of a tender exercise.
