The Committee considered the content of the Ombudsman’s Annual Letter for the period April 2017 – March 2018.  Members discussed the lessons learnt from complaints and actions that had been taken by the Council and whether more complaints were received in urban areas.  It was reported that the Council aimed to reduce response times to complainants and that a high proportion of complaints stemmed from certain services, such as social housing and planning.

 

RESOLVED:

 

That the content of the Ombudsman’s Annual Letter be noted.

The report provided councillors with an overview of the issues considered by the Standards Committee during 2017/18. This included complaints monitoring, responding to consultation exercises, a review of the Council’s Ethical Framework and councillor development.

Minutes:

Councillors considered a report that provided a review of councillor development activities held over the previous 12 months.  Members of the Committee discussed training for committee chairman and how the views of chairman could be incorporated into these sessions.  It was also reported that training and development requirements were standing items on political group agendas.  It was reported that assistance with case management would be beneficial to councillors.

That the report be noted.
