The report advised members of the content of the Local Government Ombudsman’s (LGO) Annual Letter for the period April 2018 – March 2019.  The Letter summarised complaints and enquiries received and was published on the Ombudsman's web site together with specimen data used to inform the Ombudsman's Annual Report.  Over the past year the Ombudsman had received 7 enquiries or complaints, 3 of which did not meet the LGO criteria. The Ombudsman made 7 decisions within the period.  Details of the decisions were summarised in the report.

 

RESOLVED:

 

That the content of the Ombudsman’s Annual Letter be noted.

The Committee considered a report that reviewed the work of the Standards Committee during 2018/2019.The report would be presented to the next Full Council meeting.  The report summarised presentations on the following matters:

 

§  Monitoring complaints received regarding alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct

§  The Annual Letter received from the Local Government Ombudsman

§  Review of Exemptions from Paying Charges to the Information Commissioner's Office

§  Annual Review of Councillor Development

§  Committee on Standards in Public Life - Ethical Standards Review

Annual Review of Councillor Development pdf icon PDF 63 KB

Minutes:

The report reviewed the Councillor Development Programme for 2018/19 and also  included the Councillor Induction Programme held after the elections in May 2019. This had been developed in conjunction with a cross party group of members.

 

Councillors discussed different approaches to maximise attendance at training and development seminars.  This included the potential use of online tools, holding seminars during the day, as well as during the evening and the ability to view presentations online.  The usefulness of sessions on the use of Ipads was also discussed.

That the report be noted.
