RESOLVED:

That the minutes of the meeting held 13 July 2017 be approved.

Consideration was given to the content of the Ombudsman’s Annual Letter for the period April 2016 – March 2017. 

RESOLVED:

That the content of the Ombudsman’s Annual Letter (included as Appendix A to the report) be noted.

Consideration was given to the government’s proposals for updating the criteria which disqualify individuals from being elected, or holding office, as a local authority member or directly elected mayor.

RESOLVED:

That the contents of the report noted and the Council’s Democratic Services section instructed to send any consultation response to the Department for Communities and Local Government, before the close of the consultation on Friday 8^th December 2017.    

Councillor development activities held over the previous 12 months were reviewed.  It was reported that Code of Conduct training and 2 further Customer Service sessions  were planned.  Training on Development Control and training available to Councillors  working in the day were also discussed.

That the report be noted.

The Committee received a report that reviewed the work of the Standards Committee during 2016/2017. 

RESOLVED:

That the report be noted and presented to the next meeting of Council.

To resolve that the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following items of business as there may be disclosure of exempt information as defined in Part I of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972

That the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following items as there may be disclosure to them of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 1 and 2 of Part I of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972.

That the exempt minutes of the meeting of the Standards Committee held on 13 July 2017 be approved.

There was a report on complaints made to the Monitoring Officer under the Council’s agreed arrangements for dealing with standards complaints.
