Minutes: The Committee received a presentation on the Move More Strategy. Topics covered included:
· Introductory video · Shared principles · Shared priorities · Collaboration with partners and communities · Benefits of being active · Identifying need · Long-term health conditions data for the area · Weight management · Implementation workshop · Various platforms · Partnership Growth · Areas of focus · Summary
Members were advised that a lot of engagement had taken place with key stakeholders and partners to co-produce the Move More Strategy for the Moorlands. This was a shift away from the Council’s Sports and Physical Activity Strategy.
Discussion took place around GP referrals, social prescribing, the data relating to mental health and depression, long-term mental health, social inclusion and loneliness.
Members gave examples of community groups which had helped to improve health and wellbeing and also described how young females had been impacted negatively due to comments received whilst taking exercise.
The importance of working with partners and the community to ensure residents were aware of the types of activities available was highlighted. It was also commented that volunteers were increasingly providing services and required assistance with costs to hire venues.
The Green Spaces Strategy was currently being developed and would incorporate more creative uses of green spaces in the area which community groups would be able to have access to.
The Committee welcomed the Strategy and thanked the Officers for the informative presentation.

West Midlands Ambulance Service - Update from the Chair. Minutes: The Chair informed the Committee that a special meeting of the Staffordshire County Council’s Health and Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee had been arranged to take place on 13 November 2023. This would provide the opportunity for the Committee to fully scrutinise the performance of the West Midlands Ambulance Service.
He felt that given the topography of the Moorlands and the unacceptable response times, the Health and Wellbeing Committee should take a more active role in the scrutiny of the ambulance service.
The issues around the maintenance of defibrillators was also debated.
DECIDED:
That the update be received and the Committee would receive a further update following the meeting at the County Council. |
